CONSCIOUS LEADERSHIP MASTERCLASS FOR WOC
WOMEN OF COLOR CAN BECOMEÂ TOP WORKPLACE LEADERSÂ EVEN IFÂ RIGHT NOWÂ THEY MAKE UP LESS THAN 5% OF C-SUITE
Â
In 6 months, you can learn the root of why they're not getting ahead, learn valuable leadership skills, and start advocating for yourself and your teams using The Conscious Leadership Journey's POCA model for change.
"No matter what I do, I can't seem to become the leader I want."Â
"I want to help WOC become leaders in our organization but..."
If you can resonate with any of these perspectives then you'll benefit from exploring the two core issues that contribute to these challenges. The first are the internal challenges that WOC battle due to the conditioning that we have been taught. And the second are the systemic issues that we need learn how to navigate.Â
YOU'RE NOT ALONE ON THIS JOURNEY
Did you know that since 2016, the McKinsey report “Women in the Workplace” has conveyed the same trend: women are promoted to manager at far lower rates than men, and this makes it nearly impossible for companies to lay a foundation for sustained progress at more senior levels? Additionally, the gains in representation for women overall haven’t translated to gains for women of color.
Women of color continue to lose ground at every step in the pipeline—between the entry level and the C-suite, the representation of women of color drops off by more than 75 percent. As a result, women of color account for only 4 percent of C-suite leaders, a number that hasn’t moved significantly in the past three years.
Â
The REAL 3 reasons WOC aren't getting ahead.Â
It's not that they can't do it. It's that
#1 - They're less likely to have bosses that promote their work contributions.
#2 - They don't have the social relationships outside of work to navigate organizational politics.
#3 - The don't have the meaningful mentorship critical to getting ahead.
The good news is they can develop these relationships and leadership skills that help them get promoted to leadership roles. That's where the Conscious Leadership Masterclass (CLM) comes in.Â
Why I Do It
Hi! I'm Carolina Caro and as the founder of Conscious Leadership Journey and the CLM, I help leaders develop the skills they need to succeed.
Here's the thing... everything begins with the brain. From a young age, we are conditioned to think and behave in certain ways based on our upbringing. These patterns become deeply ingrained and some of them serve to amplify our leadership potential while others detract from it. It requires a commitment to the ongoing process of self-awareness to continuously uncover our blind spots in order to discover which habits are working for us and which are not. Then it takes conscious effort to replace old habits with new ones and to sustain that change. But the rewards are priceless.
The neuroscience behind all the work that I do excites me not only because I’m a scientist by training but because I have experienced first hand how transformative this process can be. As the daughter of immigrant parents, I know what it’s like to be affected by Generational Conditioning (the beliefs and behaviors that have been passed down to me). There is no blame or shame in this process since this is simply how our brain functions much like unconscious bias. However, as an adult I’ve had to put in the work to discern which perspectives need to be changed in order for me to create the intentional results I desire rather than perpetuating outcomes from my default conditioning. As a student of these principles my own life has been impacted in ways I could have never imagined. In fact, I believe in this work so much that I changed my career path to dedicate my life to this.
To date, I’ve worked with thousands of leaders across the globe in various industries, in government, corporate and non-profit organizations as a speaker, trainer, coach and consultant. I’ve had the privilege of observing my clients experience their own transformation. And there are no words to describe that feeling other than to say, I live for this work because it’s more than a job – it’s my life’s purpose.

HERE'S HOW THE PROGRAM BREAKS DOWN:Â
Â
It Starts with you! Developing Influence through Personal Power
Most of us have internalized a narrative about ourselves that can keep us from achieving our full potential. For women, and especially, WOC, it can show up as a version of not being "enough" and that translates into different behavioral patterns that can be unproductive.
In this session participants will:
- Have an opportunity to explore their narrative and how it manifests in their personal and professional experience
- Learn about the different dimensions of personal power
- Explore which dimensions need attention to amplify their leadership potential

Communication Mastery: How the Platinum Rule Trumps the Golden Rule
When it comes to communication, most of us operate using the Golden Rule. In other words, we communicate with others the way we would like them to communicate with us. However, a more effective strategy is to use the Platinum Rule; speaking to others in their preferred communication style.
In order to use the Platinum Rule successfully we must become well versed with the different communication styles so that we can exercise our adaptability skills. DISC is a tool that provides a universal language of observable human behavior characterized by different communication styles. It helps leaders become more familiar with their default behavior patterns, communication preferences, beliefs or assumptions held about other styles, and how to become more effective and influential through flexibility.
In this session participants will:
- Have an opportunity to understand each of the four communication styles, including their preferred style and how it impacts their interactions with others
- Participate in experiential learning to heighten awareness regarding their adaptability skills
- Experience how this tool translates to communication practices in the workplace such as working collaboratively, giving and receiving feedback, or leading a team

Straight Talk: From Challenging Discussions to Conscious Conversations
Whether you’re delivering bad news, tackling a negative performance evaluation, challenging a colleague, setting boundaries or simply sharing your vision during times of change, communicating difficult subject matter can be emotionally charged. It’s no surprise that most people would do anything
to avoid these types of situations.
Yet avoiding difficult conversations or mishandling them can result in many negative consequences. Navigating conversations effectively takes certain skills, such as emotional intelligence, courage, self-control, and even humility.
In this session participants will:
- Have an opportunity to learn new strategies for handling difficult conversations effectively
- Explore a framework for having difficult conversations
- Practice providing feedback using candor and curiosity to create win/win
scenarios

From Mind Full to Mindful: Resilience through Mindful Leadership
We are facing an unprecedented time in history, where the landscape is evolving at a faster pace than most of us can adapt. That has translated into more demands on our time and a longer list of things that seem to require our immediate attention. In addition, our growing dependency on digital devices
keep us drowning in data.
It’s no surprise that most of us find ourselves steeped in survival mode. This way of working is not sustainable, as anxiety, stress and exhaustion are becoming the norm. In order to succeed, there is an urgency for a radical transformation in leadership strategies.
Mindfulness-based techniques enable us to train our brains to meet these everyday challenges with resilience, by moving from reactivity to responsiveness. By cultivating this practice where we can be more present in the moment, we give ourselves the opportunity to enhance our performance, our engagement, our ability to focus, to innovate and to be creative. The mind is malleable and we can shape it so that we can shift from surviving to thriving.
In this session participants will:
- Have an opportunity to explore the fundamentals in neuroscience to understand the mechanism of emotional triggers and how habits are formed
- Discuss the applicability of mindfulness for busy professionals
- Practice simple mindfulness-based techniques that can be easily applied in the
workplace to produce positive outcomes and a culture of resilience

In this session participants will:
- Have an opportunity to understand what it means to manage up, down and across

capacity to manage up, down and across the organization - Explore specific yet simple strategies to amplify their ability to manage up,
down and across

Time Mastery: Prioritize like a Pro to Avoid Burnout
We all face the same issue when it comes to time, we have too much to do and not enough time to
do it all. In order to shift how we approach managing our time, we first need to consider our underlying beliefs about time. In other words, some people believe that being busy means they are being productive. For others, constantly being busy is tied in to their self-worth.
Some of these associations with time can be unhealthy, leading to burnout. It can also lead to a lot of lost time in highly unproductive activities. Mastering our time is about reframing how we approach our priorities and setting clear boundaries with others to not allow interruptions or other distractions to
diminish our focus. If something is important enough then we need to create the habits that will support our commitment to these priorities. This workshop will help participants be more intentional with their choices so that they can spend their time focused on the activities that align most with their priorities, while minimizing the daily distractions that chew up their time needlessly.
In this session participants will:
- Have an opportunity to explore their relationship with time
- Examine their priorities
- Audit how they spend their time
- Identify the behaviors that need to change to align with their priorities

Lessons Learned: Action Plans & Accountability Â
This session is designed to be an intentional pause of reflection on the blinds spots that have been uncovered, the progress that has been made and a discussion around action plans and accountability to help with sustainability.Â
In this session participants will:
- Have an opportunity to review their generational conditioning and how it impacted their leadership skills
- Share discoveries made regarding blind spots and the progress made in addressing these
- Discuss action plans and accountability to continue to sustain change and growth
